April is here!
April arrived on Wednesday morning. Unlike with Mom and Dad's taxi experience, she arrived here without a hitch. We enjoyed lunch at a Peruvian restaurant in Palermo Viejo and walked around the Botanical Gardens. The Gardens had some pockets of activity - in one area what appeared to be an Argentine tv series was being filmed. In another famous Argentine model Nicole Neumann was being photographed for a magazine shoot. That afternoon, Roberto caught up with my family for some coffee and tea at El Ultimo Beso. That night we attended Camille's official going away party held at a bar in Palermo Viejo. We had a steak dinner at Miranda. The following morning, Mom, April and I headed to Recoleta for a 4 hour long beauty session at Aqua Vita Medical Spa. We underwent massages, body scrubs, facials and steam baths. All in all a wonderful birthday treat from Mom! We had lunch at a french restaurant in the area called L'Ecole. We walked down Santa Fe to do a bit of shopping before heading over to the Plaza de Mayo area for a guided tour of the area. We checked out the Casa Rosada, the Obelisk, the Cafe Tortoni and other buildings in this area. Near the Obelisk there were huge crowds of demonstrators marching in the area. We ate dinner at a delicious restaurant called Thymus.
On Friday morning (Good Friday) we headed out to Tigre. This turned out to be a hectic experience. As this was a holiday for most everyone and the weather was beautiful it was VERY crowded. We spent a few hours at a restaurant that was extremely busy to the point that the service was TERRIBLE (and the food was not very good). We literally had to ask for our check about 8 times. After waiting more than 30 min for it, Seth walked back and retrieved it himself! I think my family enjoyed Tigre, I regret that they did not have the opportunity to enjoy it on a more normal day.
On Saturday we headed back to the Casa Rosada area to take some pictures and then made our way to Puerto Madero for lunch. We ended up at RadioSet - a very cool bar/lounge where live DJ sets for various radio stations are broadcast most nights. The food wasn't that great, but sitting by the water and the atmosphere was nice. After lunch we headed over to Recoleta so that we could stop by the cemetary and the flea market. We also enjoyed coffee and ice cream at Munchi's. That night we had a very nice dinner at Sucre. Our friend Fernando joined us.
Sunday was the last day of my family's trip here in Buenos Aires. Mom and April had a few last minute gifts they wanted to purchase, so we got up first thing and headed over to Alto Palermo mall on the Subte (subway). We then had brunch at Olsen in Palermo Hollywood. Afterwards we stopped through La Boca, walked around, watched a few tango dancers and took a few pictures. My family left an hour or so after we returned back to the apartment. After having them around, I was very sad to see them go! That was one of my first real pangs of homesickness realizing how far home, my family and friends are. They made it back safe and sound on Monday morning.
