It's a Surprise!

Last night a surprise birthday party was held in my honor and organized by Seth! This has been quite an extended birthday weekend. As you will recall from my prior post, I had organized a party for myself (much to Seth's chargrin) for Friday night.

A few days prior Roberto had invited me to a birthday dinner on Saturday night since he would not be able to make it on Friday. He came by around 9:45, picked Seth and I up and took us to Morelia's pizza place. Before we stepped in the door, to my surprise, I noticed a few of our friends upstairs! The surprise was perhaps not as momentous as it could have been, because in true Argentine fashion everyone except Martin, Vanessa, Fernando and Soledad were late! Seth had made the mistake of telling everyone to be there at 9:30 for the surprise... what he has now learned is that he should have told people to be there at 8! The remainder of our friends came by between about 10:30 to 11:30. There was plenty of good food (thin crust pizza!) and good wine flowing, not to mention the great company. I was truly honored that so many of our friends that we have made here in Buenos Aires were able to make it! I know that Seth has been working hard to put this together over the last couple of weeks and I was humbled by his effort. Everything was perfect - we had our own private "loft" space that overlooked the rest of the restaurant and accomodated our group of friends. Martin and Vanesa, Fernando and Soledad (she is a wonderful woman who teaches the tango classes that Seth and I took on Thursday nights), Gabriel, Sergio and Desiree; Monica, Patricia and Andrea from the Friday night English group; Claudio from Megatlon, Silvina- Seth's wonderful Spanish teacher and of course Roberto who has been instrumental to helping us adjust to being here.

We have been here such a short amount of time and the friends that we have made here have accepted us as if they have known us for years. I will be sad to leave here on May 2nd. I know I will be back; this exerience has been unforgetable and I have no regrets about the decisions we made in order to come here.
